What is Ambulance Wish?
The Aim
The aim of Ambulance Wish UK is to bring comfort, dignity, and joy to people living with life-limiting or terminal illnesses by helping them fulfil their final wishes. Through the use of specially adapted ambulances and the support of trained volunteers, we make it possible for individuals to visit a meaningful place, attend a special event, or simply spend treasured time with loved ones. Our mission is to create unforgettable moments and lasting memories, ensuring that no wish is out of reach when it matters most.
What is meant by a meaningful journey?
As people approach the end of their life or receiving palliative care, patients may report that they wish they could visit a specific place of meaning before they die.
Examples of previous assistance given include;
• A patient wanting to visit her local beach one last time with her children, the ambulance crew conveyed the patient via stretcher so that she and her family could watch the waves and share time together.
• A patient that had always wanted to see a particular music artist with her daughters, the patient had bought tickets prior to becoming ill, the last wish of this patient was to attend the concert. The volunteer Ambulance crew conveyed the patient via stretcher to the music venue with her daughters, they remained with the patient throughout to provide support and administer necessary medication.
The Cost and Funding
Each wish we complete costs our charity £400 - £800 from Tyres, fuel and any consumables used. This is not including any rent or running costs for the charity!
Requesting a Wish
We Accept Wishes from the following places:
- Hospital Palliative Care Teams
- Community Palliative Care Teams
- Hospice
- Community Hospice Care
- Patients Family or relatives with support from a Palliative Care Team.
Help Our Cause
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and complete as many wishes as we can. Each wish costs us approximately £400 to make it happen, from fuel to tyres.
